Port Huron Project Boat - Norwegian?

The boat is a 12 Metre design. Built in the United States in -about- the 1930's. It's name is the Mitena. Owned by Pat Henley and his dad. Built with Yellow Pine planking it would not hold the paint. They hauled it out onto hard ground about 2011. They were working on it (re-planking) and discovered it needed some frames. So that was a setback.

The mast had some rot in the bottom third where it had been wrapped in fibreglass. And they scarfed in some new wood. A place in Ohio. Years ago

12 Metre was once the America's Cup racing sailboat design. To calculate whether a boat meets the qualifications of a 12 Metre you take the square root of the sail area and add the measurement of across the beam down to the depth of the keel and back up to the point where you started across to measure the beam. That number should be 12 metres. Something like that.

November 2013

I went in to talk to the "Guys Who Climb Cell Phone Towers" and snapped a few photos on the way out.

November 2013 - no snow so far!

First Sight

The first picture. It was an awesome sight! March 21st, 2013. On the way to the Maritime Center in Port Huron. Wow, it's like the biggest sailboat (wooden) I've ever seen!

At the time I thought it was probably abandoned.
